Old Way Heirloom Design
My name is Ken Olsen & I have been in the jewelry business approximately 30 years. My business specializes in vintage style jewelry. In working with the Ring Genie I realized it’s a valuable tool for the layout, engraving, inlaying & piercing that are important elements needed in the making of vintage style jewelry. As for stone setting such as bright cutting & bead setting the Ring Genie & it’s attachments are a huge time saver. The Ring Genie makes jobs easier & I would not want to work without it.

In the past thirty four years of being in this business I’ve seen tools come and go. The more recent ones promise to make the products with little or no human skill. I for one have stayed away from such technical items that replace the traditional skills we have worked so hard to achieve. The Ring Genie however I’m sure will stand the test of time because it doesn’t replace any human skills it only aids in helping take the ones that a craftsman has and allows one to take them to a higher level by it’s user friendly way of helping maneuvering the piece one is working on.

The first time I was introduced to the Ring Genie was while visiting a fellow Jeweler friend of mine who happened to be the guy who taught me most of what I know about practical stone setting and engraving on custom jewelry. My first reaction was envy! Even with the friendly competition we shared I knew I was at a disadvantage. Where could I get one was my next thought. Soon after Dave Lark was making his presentation to me not knowing I was already chomping at the bit to obtain my own hoping to level the playing field with my jeweler friend. As a store owner it had been a while since I had been inspired to “get back to the bench” but during Dave’s presentation all I could think about was the possibilities that this machine afforded.. The aspects that excited me the most where the ease in which one can do preliminary layouts and scribe / drill with perfect accuracy. Gone where the days of measuring, re -measuring and trying to figure out what is Pi?! After two years of working on the ring Genie I am still amazed at all the thought that was put in to the easy to use features and attachments and enjoying discovering new ways to advance my craft with this tool that I now consider a must have.

The RinGenie is a versatile, timesaving tool that I use to speed up layout and design for rings of all sizes and materials. Drilling holes for precisely placed stones and quick milling of borders are two features that practically pay for this tool. The built-in detents simplify layout by allowing me to mark in 6, 10 or 15-degree increments around the ring. This gives me a very accurate and repeatable layout for engraving or stone setting. The layout feature works for both the top and sides of the ring. The tool is precision machined, is easy to set up and use, and has streamlined my design and layout time on rings making me more efficient.

I absolutely love the RinGenie! My work has benefited greatly with the use of the RinGenie. Pave’, channel, flush, any kind of setting, engraving or layout is so much easier. I no longer have to remove rings as I work on them allowing me to work freely all across the surface with a simple turn. Working is smooth and fluid. I find myself reaching for this tool again and again. I also love the RinGenie Side Helper and would never want to be without it. No other tool allows so much access to the side profile of rings! Fantastic tools!
